Photo tips
Great photos sell faster.
Buyers can’t touch or try your item, so your photos do the talking. Here’s how to take pictures that show your item at its best, using just your phone.
The 6 photos every listing needs
Up to 6 photos is usually enough to show every angle of your item, so buyers can assess it properly.
The front
The full item, straight on. This is your main photo, so make it your best one.
The back
Buyers want to see the whole item, not just its best side.
Close-up details
Fabric, buttons, buckles, wheels, straps: whatever a buyer would want to look at closely.
Labels, tags and dates
The brand, size and care labels, plus the expiry date on anything dated, like baby food, formula, toiletries or car seats. These answer questions before they’re asked.
Any flaws
A small mark or scratch, shown clearly. Honesty builds trust and avoids returns.
In use or to scale
Folded, unfolded, worn or next to everyday objects, so buyers can judge the size.
Tips for taking great photos
No fancy camera needed. A phone and a little care go a long way.
- 1
Use natural light
Shoot near a window during the day. Avoid harsh flash and dim evening light, which hide colours and details.
- 2
Choose a plain background
A clean wall, sheet, floor or table lets your item stand out. Move clutter out of the shot.
- 3
Clean it first
Wipe, dust and tidy your item before photographing it, just as you would before packing it.
- 4
Keep it sharp
Hold your phone steady, tap the screen to focus, and wipe your camera lens. Blurry photos put buyers off.
- 5
Fill the frame
Get close enough that the item takes up most of the photo. Avoid zooming in, which makes pictures grainy.
- 6
Show the true colour
Skip filters and heavy editing. The item should look exactly as it will when it arrives.

A quick look through your photos before you submit your listing.
